CRANK1 Battery — FAQ & Maintenance Guide

Clean, professional guide for customers — warranty, life, charging, storage, installation, and safety.

1. Warranty

Q: What is the warranty period of a CRANK1 Battery?

A: All CRANK1 batteries come with a 1-year replacement warranty and an expected life of 3 years or more.

2. Battery Life

Q: What is the life of a CRANK1 Battery?

Several factors affect battery life:

Climate

  • Cold climates: Harder on batteries; bikes stored for long periods may not be charged properly.
  • Hot climates: Batteries discharge and dry out faster.
  • Moderate climates: Ideal for long battery life.

Usage

  • Daily use increases longevity.
  • Long inactivity shortens lifespan; periodic charging is essential.

Application

  • Battery life depends on the motorcycle’s charging system; older bikes may charge less effectively.
  • Extra accessories (audio, alarms) increase electrical drain.

Negative Factors

  • Sulfation: Crystal buildup from improper charging.
  • Lack of charging: Charge at least once a month if unused.
  • Complete drain: Repeated deep discharges shorten battery life.

CRANK1 AGM Batteries: Typically last 3–5 years and often show warning signs (slow cranking, needing frequent charges) before failing.

3. Charging Issues

Q: Why doesn’t my CRANK1 Battery hold a charge?

If a battery is excessively discharged it may only accept surface charging. AGM batteries often require higher charging voltage (16–18V). A qualified technician using an appropriate charger should test the battery before and after charging.

If the battery cannot be recovered, replacement is recommended. To prevent failure, charge monthly and check for parasitic drains such as audio systems, alarms, or ECU memory.

4. Battery Maintenance

  • Do not let the battery remain discharged.
  • Charge once a month.
  • For storage beyond 30 days, use a CRANK1 automatic battery charger.
  • Keep the battery clean, dry, and free of dirt.
  • Clean terminals to prevent corrosion.
  • Protect from impacts and shocks.

5. Early Failure Causes

If a new battery fails soon after installation, possible causes include:

  • Faulty charging system
  • Short circuit in the electrical system
  • Dirty or loose battery terminals
  • Excessive ignition-off drains (parasitic drains)
  • Incorrect battery model or insufficient capacity

Contact a qualified technician if issues persist.

6. How to Know if the Battery is Fully Charged

  • Terminal voltage can be maintained at a constant level for 2 hours.
  • Open-circuit voltage stabilizes at 12.8V or higher.

7. Normal Charging Rate

Charge at a slow rate of 1/10 of the 10-hour rated capacity (0.1C).

8. Monthly Charging Benefits

Batteries self-discharge about 0.5–1% per day. Monthly boost charging prevents excessive discharge, especially in warm climates.

9. Installation Position

AGM batteries can be mounted at various angles since the electrolyte is absorbed. However, model-specific angle limits may apply.

10. Installation & Maintenance Guidelines

  • Connect the positive terminal first. Do not reverse polarity.
  • Avoid deep discharge; charge promptly after use.
  • Disconnect negative terminal if storing long-term.
  • Do not short-circuit terminals to test power.
  • Check terminals for cleanliness and tight connections regularly.
  • Store at 5–25°C, in a dry, ventilated area away from direct sunlight and heat sources (keep ≥2 m from heat).

11. Safety Precautions

  • Do not place the battery on its side or upside down.
  • Charging and discharging produce hydrogen gas — work in a ventilated area and avoid sparks or flames.
  • After charging outside the vehicle, wait 10 minutes before installation to allow hydrogen to dissipate.
  • After riding, wait 10 minutes before removing the battery.
  • Do not charge in ambient temperatures over 45°C. Reduce current or allow cooling if hot.
  • Keep metal tools away from terminals to avoid short circuits.
  • Do not strike terminals with tools.

12. Storage & Dealer Instructions

FIFO (First In, First Out)

Older stock should be sold first.

Check Battery Voltage Before Selling or Installing

  • > 12.8V — Ready to use.
  • 12.6–12.8V — Charge at 0.1C, constant voltage 14.4–15.0V for 4–6 hours.
  • < 12.6V — Charge at 0.1C, constant voltage 14.4–15.0V for 8–10 hours.

During charging, monitor battery temperature. If hot to the touch, pause charging and resume after cooling.

Long-term Storage (6–12 months)

Discharge at 0.1C for 2 hours, then recharge at 0.1C for 10–12 hours.

After charging, voltage may temporarily exceed 13.5V. Recheck after 4 hours. A fully charged battery should read 12.95–13.2V.

Charging precautions: Keep away from flammable materials, ensure charger meets requirements, and monitor voltage/current. If charging current does not decrease and instead increases, stop charging immediately.
