FAQ

The following are the most frequently asked questions about CRANK1 BATTERY maintenance.

Question: What is the warranty period of CRANK1 BATTERY?

Answer: CRANK1 all batteries come with 1 year replacement warranty and expected life is up to or more than 3 years.

Q: What is the life of the CRANK1 BATTERY?

A: Many factors affect the life of a battery:

  • Climate: Colder climates tend to be hard on batteries from a starting standpoint, and for the fact that many people put their bikes away for the season when not using. Sometimes without charging properly. Hotter climates tend to discharge batteries quicker, and dry out batteries quicker. “Average” climates are the best for long battery life.
  • Usage: A battery that is used every day has the most chance of living a long life. Batteries that sit a lot, many times are neglected. This shortens overall life. Periodic charging is the best defence.
  • Application: How well is the battery charged in the vehicle? Some vehicles have better charging systems than others. Older bikes have worse charging systems than new ones. Are there a lot of extra accessories on your vehicle? Sometimes a battery has a hard time keeping up with additional electrical drains, thus wearing it out quicker.

Negative Factors:

  • Sulfation: A build up of crystals on the plates of a battery. This comes from not charging a battery properly. The more sulfation that builds up, the harder the battery is to charge, until finally it does not charge at all.
  • Lack of Charging: As mentioned previously, lack of proper charging is the main reason that a battery will not last as long as it should. At the very minimum, a battery should be charged once a month if left unused.
  • Complete Drain: Have you ever left your key on, and totally killed the battery? If recovered in a short time period, the battery should charge back to 100%. But every time this happens, it is similar to the battery having a “heart attack”, and shortening its overall life. Always turn your vehicle off with the keyed ignition switch, not the “kill switch”.
  •
  • CRANK1 AGM: Sealed AGM batteries typically last 3 to 5 years on average. Typically sealed AGM batteries will give warning before completely
  • They will start slower, and require more charging. This is your clue to replace the battery. Typically they do not fail all of a sudden.

Q: Why doesn’t my CRANK1 BATTERY hold a charge?

When a battery is in an excessively discharged state, it does not readily accept a standard charge. The battery may appear to be accepting a charge, but charging is occurring only at the surface of the plates.

CRANK1 AGM  BATTERY

With an AGM (sealed lead-acid) battery, higher voltage is required to get the job done. Charge the battery using a charger that can consistently supply between 16 and 18 volts. Typically a charger like this is only found in the service department of a motorcycle shop. The service technician should test the battery prior to charging, and again after charging is complete. Charge time will vary based on how bad the battery is discharged. Final testing will tell you if the battery has been recovered, and to what extent.

Next Steps After Troubleshooting Your CRANK1 BATTERY

If the battery still does not hold a charge after going through these procedures, best bet is to purchase a new battery. In order to ensure that the new battery does not suffer the same fate, make sure battery is charged properly and frequently enough to keep it from draining to an excessively discharged state. Charging once a month is recommended in most cases. More frequent charging may be required on today’s vehicles that tend to have a constant electrical drain. Typically, electrical drain can come from a music system, clock, alarm system, or other computer memory.

Question: How should I maintain my CRANK1 BATTERY?

Answer:

  • Do notlet the battery stand in a discharged condition.
  • Charge batteryonce a month
  • When your motorcycle is stored over 30 days, plug in a crank1 automatic battery chargerto maintain a proper storage charge
  • Keep battery top clean, dry and free of dirt
  • Clean battery terminals to prevent corrosion.
  • Protectthe battery from strong impacts or shocks

Q: What can cause a new battery to fail after installation?

If a new battery becomes unserviceable within a few days or weeks after its installation, it may be due to one or more of the following reasons:

  • A faulty charging system
  • A short circuit in the electrical system
  • Battery terminals are dirty or not properly connected
  • Excessive ignition off drains or high parasitic drains
  • Electrical capacity of the battery is insufficient for size of the vehicle or may be wrong battery model fitment.

Contact a qualified technician if the condition remains the same.

How to determine whether or not my CRANK1 BATTERY has been fully charged?

The following characteristics will tell you if a battery has been properly charged:

  • Maximum voltage output across battery terminals can be maintained at constant level for two hours
  • Open circuit voltage is stabilized at 12.8 volt or higher

What is the normal charge rate for my CRANK1 BATTERY?

Naturally, batteries of different capacities require different charge rates. Generally, a battery should be charged at a slow charge rate of 1/10 its given 10 HR.capacity

What are the benefits of charging my CRANK1 BATTERY once a month?

When not in use, a battery discharges on a daily basis sometimes up to 0.5-1%. This rate of discharge increases when the climate is warm. To make up for this loss from disuse, give your battery a boosting charge once a month.

Can CRANK1 AGM battery be installed in any position?

In most applications, CRANK1 AGM batteries are installed in an upright position, but in some situations there is a need to tilt them (sometimes at very extreme angles) or lay them completely flat on their backs.

CRANK1 Maintenance-free, absorbed glass mat (AGM) style batteries offer more flexibility regarding mounting angles because the electrolyte is absorbed, not flowing freely.

Different battery models have different limitations regarding mounting angles.

 INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE

  1. Always connect the positive terminal firstly. DO NOT reverse polarity otherwise the electrical equipment of motorcycle will damage. CAUTION– * can’t be activated due to the different performance of different vehicle. Start the engine for more times or step on gas which can more easily to activate. * Manual activation is recommend to achieve exact date recorded.
  2. DO NOT over discharging the battery, charging the battery timely after discharging.
  3. Dismount or disconnect the negative terminal of battery if the motorcycle hasn’t been in service for long term.
  4. DO NOT check the battery has power or not by short-circuit the terminal
  5. Regularly check the terminal connection and the surface of terminal is clean or not to ensure well connection.
  6. Storage the battery where is 5~25℃, dry, ventilated and no direct sunshine. Keep the battery at least 2m away from the heat source. Regularly check and maintain the battery.

 SAFE USE PRECAUTIONS

  1. Do not place the battery against the side or upside down to prevent acid leakage.
  2. The hydrogen will be generated during the working and discharging of battery which will cause explosion if there were fire. Pay attention for the following:
  3. Maintain and use the battery where is ventilate.
  4. No sparks and flame when the battery is in maintenance.
  5. If the battery is charging outside the vehicle which can’t be installed immediately after finish charging until laying at lease 10min to release the hydrogen generated inside the battery.
  6. After riding, the battery can’t be dismounted immediately until laying for at least 10 mins.
  7. During charging, the ambient temperature should not be over 45℃, otherwise cooling by water or by reducing the charging current and charging volts.
  8. Do not places the metal tool or conducting matter nearby the terminal in case short-circuit the terminal.
  9. DO not knock the terminal by hammer during the battery installation.
  10. Be safe during carrying to prevent hitting.

This note covers products: Factory activated motorcycle batteries (SMF),

  1. FIRST IN .FIRST OUT

The principle of sales and storage must be strictly followed: batteries purchased and stored earlier and sell them first.

  1. BEFORE SELLING OR INSTALLING BATTERY, CHECK THE BATTEY VOLTAGE

1.1 Before battery send to your dealer or selling: Please be sure to check the battery voltage. Store battery in temperature exceeding 35 ° C. Check the battery voltage and charge the battery according to the following charging instructions:

If the battery voltage exceeds 12.8V, no need to charge, send or sell it directly to the dealer or install into motorcycle.

If the battery voltage is between 12.6-12.8V constant voltage value 14.40 ~ 15.0V, then charging current in 0.1C (A)for 4-6 hours If the battery voltage is less than 12.6V constant voltage value 14.40 ~ 15.0V, then charging current in 0.1C (A) for 8-10 hours

Note: Pay attention to the temperature of battery during the charging, when you touch the surface of the battery with your hands, if feel hot then need to stop charging, and continue the charging procedure after it cool down.

1.2 Before installing the battery on the motorcycle: Please inform all your dealers and sales stores to check the battery voltage and follow procedure 2.1 to recharge battery.

1.3 In case battery has stored for 6-12 months, then battery should be discharged in 0.1C (A) current for 2 hours, and then chargewithconstant voltage value 14.40 ~ 15.0V, in 0.1C (A) for 10 ~ 12 hours。

1.4 During the charging process, battery voltage will exceed 13.5V and voltage will automatically drop after disconnection, this is normal. Please re-check the battery voltage after 4 hours disconnecting. The normal battery voltage should stay between 12.95-13.2V and that the is fully charged.
